Proton has unveiled the eMas 5 in Malaysia ahead of its official debut on October 30. Developed with Geely’s technology and design expertise, the eMas 5 is based on the Geely Geome Xingyuan and marks Malaysia’s first affordable electric vehicle, becoming the second model in the e.MAS lineup after the e.MAS 7 launched last year.

The eMas 5 has already received strong interest in Malaysia, with 3,000 bookings recorded in the first week, including 1,607 orders within the first 24 hours. While the final price is yet to be confirmed, Proton estimates a retail range of RM60,000 to RM80,000(~NPR 22.8 lakh - 30.4 lakh) potentially making it the most accessible EV in the Malaysian market at launch.

The car is offered with a single rear motor setup. The Prime variant produces 58 kW and 130 Nm of torque, delivering a WLTP-rated range of 225 km through its 30.12 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery.
The Premium model boosts outputs to 85 kW and 150 Nm, paired with a larger 40.16 kWh LFP pack that extends the range to 325 km. Top speeds are capped at 125 km/h for the Prime and 135 km/h for the Premium.

Charging options include up to 71 kW DC fast charging for the Premium, allowing the battery to go from 30% to 80% in 21 minutes. AC charging via a wallbox is supported at up to 6.6 kW.
The eMas 5 features a dual-cowl dashboard with a sloping centre console and a 14.6-inch infotainment screen supporting wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Standard features include halogen headlights, 16-inch steel wheels, manual seats, air-conditioning, rear AC vents, and faux leather upholstery.

The Premium variant adds LED exterior lights, a black roof, D-pad-inspired alloy wheels, six speakers, a 360-degree camera, a powered tailgate, and an Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) with Adaptive Cruise Control, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Forward and Rear Collision Warning, Lane Change Assist, and Blind Spot Detection.

Both variants share a 70L frunk, 28L rear underseat storage, boot space from 375L to 1,320L, Atlas OS with live EV charging map, Proton eMas app support, leatherette seats, rear-wheel drive, and rear multi-link suspension.
The Proton eMas 5 is expected to follow the eMas 7 into the Nepalese market in the near future.
